Carnew Adult Basic Education Service

Our Mission Statement:

“The Adult Basic Education Service endeavours to provide a person - centred, developmental adult education service in a secure, comfortable and relaxed environment.  We respect all participants as active and equal partners and aim to facilitate their development as independent learners”

The  A.B.E. Service offers part-time tuition to adults who want to return to education, up-skill or re-skill for work, brush up on basic skills such as reading, writing, maths and IT, whilst gaining confidence and working towards a recognised certificate, with centres located in both Arklow and Carnew.

If you are an early school leaver or out of education for a number of years and wish to improve your reading, writing, maths, or computer skills, then K.W.E.T.B’s  A.B.E. Service is the ideal pathway for you.

Our courses are open to anyone over the age of sixteen and not in full-time education.  Classes are delivered in a friendly and relaxed environment where students work at their own pace in small groups to develop their skills and confidence. 

Students’ needs are at the centre of our service and tuition is provided in small groups with a friendly, relaxed learning environment.  Our service is free, friendly and confidential with flexible class times where possible. 

All courses are part-time and of short duration, from 6 to 20 weeks. They offer adult students an opportunity to take the first step back to education. Priority is given to adults who have not completed the Leaving Certificate, are unemployed, have been out of education for some time, or are receiving social welfare payments.

Many of our courses lead to QQI certificates at levels 1-3 and progression options are available within Arklow FETC or other KWETB Programmes.

Students will:

• Build on basic reading and writing skills

• Improve spelling techniques

• Get started with IT

• Work on basic number skills and

• Understand how you learn best

If you find basic reading, writing, working with numbers or using technology is holding you back then these courses are a good starting point for you. 

If you, or someone you know, would like to improve basic skills then ABE’s free, friendly and confidential service can assist.  The Arklow ABE Service covers the South Wicklow area and tuition is available in centres located in Arklow and Carnew.
